Cragg Challenge 2017

On Sunday, we attended our ultimate major event of the 2017 season at Cragg Vale in West Yorkshire  which is one of the longest continuous hill climbs in the UK and which was featured in the Tour de France a couple of years ago. Four of the Bike Marshals Team supervised an ambitious program which included a cycle hill climb, a children’s relay run, several distance runs and even a tractor run !

It was a hard working day for us, we hardly stopped …but it was enjoyable all the same. We hope to be back in 2018

Sad News About Kyle

Earlier this year we assisted in a ride out for 11 year old Kyle Buckley from Bolton. Kyle suffered from a very rare form of cancer and funds were being raised to send him to the USA for treatment….the campaign was ‘Smile for Kyle’.   On the day, with the support of many members of the biking community Kyle and his Mum was transported to an event riding in a trike….he really enjoyed his ride which was escorted by the Bike Marshals Team.

Regrettably, Kyle succumbed to the terrible disease a couple of weeks ago and we had the honour and privilege to again escort him, this time on his final ride, firstly to the church and then on to the cemetery again accompanied by a large number of bikers.   We send our sincere condolences to Carol, his Mum and his family…….Rest in Peace Kyle….You are free from pain and discomfort.

Pedal for Scotland 2017

On Sunday the 10th September 2017 our team supplemented by four members of our friends from Bikemarshals ie from Ireland supported the Pedal for Scotland Sportive event when almost 10,000 cyclists tackled two main routes between Glasgow and Edinburgh.   A total of 15 motos were involved, a big part was to facilitate the movement of the general public across the closed road course. It was hard work but enjoyable non the less.   It was fantastic to work with our friends from ‘over the water’ ! There was a social aspect of the weekend however, we all enjoyed a joint meal at the Premier Inn

‘Slainte’ Ted,Shamus, Pat and Callum’   Safe journey home guys.
